What does the extra ten dollars actually buy?
Time, group size, and at the top end a completely different site.
Three things, and none of them is a better chamber.
Time. The cheapest tour is an hour and the dearest is two. In a set of rooms where the whole effect depends on standing still and letting your eyes adjust, an extra hour is worth more than it sounds.
Group size. Not stated on most listings, but it correlates with price and with the reviews. Eight people in a chamber is a conversation; thirty is a queue that happens to be underground.
A different site entirely. The jump from $27 to $36 is not a jump in quality — it is a jump from the vaults to a preserved street under the City Chambers. That is the one price difference on this page that buys a genuinely different thing.
What it never buys is older stone. Every vaults tour here goes into chambers built in 1788 inside the same viaduct. An operator charging more is charging for the hour, not the history.

- Skip the dram

- Come outside August
Prices do not rise for the Festival but availability collapses, and the tours left are rarely the ones you would have chosen.
- Book the afternoon slot
Evening and late-night tours sell out first and stay at full price. The afternoon runs are the same chambers and easier to get.
